Todd Drake creates community influenced paintings,
installations, and murals. He is a 2004-2005 Rockefeller
Fellow at UNC-CH and lecturer in Art History at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.
A co-creator of the book Going to Carolina del Norte, published by the Center
for Global Initiatives at UNC-Chapel Hill, Drake has also published a picture book
on undocumented immigration from Mexico titled Give Me Eyes-Crossing borders to the heart.
His works have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries
and museums, including the South Eastern Center for Contemporary
Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Greenhill Center
for North Carolina Art, in Greensboro, North Carolina; the Weatherspoon
Art Museum at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro; the
Fayetteville Museum of Art in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Waterworks
Visual Arts Center in Salisbury, North Carolina; the Union Street
Gallery in Chicago Heights, Illinois; Coincidence Gallery in Richmond,
Virginia; and Blue Pony Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He is the recipient of Awards and Honors, including two grants from
the North Carolina Arts Council. In addition, Drake's work was featured
in the documentary video "Concept to Completion", sponsored by the
Greensboro Artist League.
Drake is currently working on a series of mixed medias works addressing
conflict.
Todd Drake lives in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. He received
an MFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
